Movie Review: 'The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith' - We Need More Films Like This...

Plot Summary:
The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith chronicles the experiences of the young John Groberg as he returns to Tonga and the surrounding islands with his young family, this time to serve as a mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is based on the book The Fire of Faith and is a sequel to his popular first book, In the Eye of the Storm (later renamed The Other Side of Heaven), which was later adapted into a film of the same name.

Why It Makes My List:
The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith is based on an inspiring true story, that is as emotionally exhausting as it is spiritually and emotionally satisfying. Witnessing the inspiring courage and indomitable faith of people in desperate, challenging and near hopeless situations helps to reaffirm my faith in the strength and goodness of the human spirit, a loving Father in Heaven, and the reality that we are all children of God and need to care for one another.

Other Reason to Watch:
  1. Seeing Other Well-known People: For example, it was fun to see the late prophet and President Thomas S. Monson outside of General Conference and portrayed in a different context than you may have seen him before.
  2. Lesser Known Actors: I enjoyed the opportunity to see unknown and lesser-known actors and actresses from the Pacific islands who are talented performers giving emotional, moving performances. They are skilled actors and it is great to see them get an opportunity to be a part of a wide-release film.
Reason to Pass:
  1. Some Intense Scenes: While still a great film for families, there are a few scenes where characters lives are in serious danger and one in which a character is beaten severely. As a result, it may be better suited for older children.
The Other Side of Heaven: Fire of Faith is in theaters.
As always, I recommend checking out the IMDB.com Parents Guide just so that you are aware of any potentially objectionable material before deciding whether to watch it.
